The frosted shade protects from any glare on my television and it lights my room perfectly. The only problem with this lamp is that I had bought it with the expectation that it could dim using a 3-way bulb, however it is not capable of doing so. The product features state:# Rotary 3-way switch on torchiere and rotary switch on reading lamp # Uses 100W Type A 3-way bulb and 40W Type A bubl - Not included However there is neither a rotary switch on the reading lamp nor an actual 3 way switch. I tried one from Hammacher Schlemmer. Paid a good $40.00 more, and it was UN-USABLE. The glare on the TV and on reading material made me miserable and I had to have the light shade turned down completely to keep from blinding anyone else in the room. Check out something simple like this, instead, if you just want to be able to see to read.
